Our site includes direct links to third-party sellers (like Amazon) for your convenience. We're not affiliated with these sellers and don't earn commission. We're just recommending products we think are worth your attention.

Friction Catalog products are tools for intentional living. They're not medical devices, therapy, or treatment for any condition. If you're struggling with phone addiction, mental health issues, or anything else, please consult a qualified professional.
We sell infrastructure for practice, not solutions. Using a flip phone won't automatically fix your attention span. A film camera won't make you a better photographer. A friction device won't cure your phone addiction. You still have to do the work.
The Parent-Teen Phone Contract is a template, not legal advice. Every family is different. Modify it to fit your situation. Enforce it consistently. We're not responsible for how you use it or what happens as a result.
Catalog products are sourced from third-party manufacturers (Nokia, Kodak, Motorola, etc.). We don't manufacture these products. Any warranties or guarantees come from the original manufacturer, not us. We're curators, not makers.
Custom Friction Devices are experimental hardware. They're built with care, but they're not mass-produced consumer electronics. Use at your own risk. Don't modify the device internals. If something breaks, contact us—but we're not liable for damages.
Everything is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We're a small operation doing our best. If something goes wrong, we'll make it right—but we're not legally liable for consequential damages, lost profits, or any other indirect harm.

The ideas behind Friction Catalog—conscious friction, nervous system infrastructure, technology that creates space between stimulus and response—are freely available for anyone to use, remix, and build upon.
You don't need our permission to:
We believe good ideas should spread. If you're inspired by what we're doing, go build your own version. The world needs more friction, more intentionality, more space for choice.
If you're directly inspired by Friction Catalog, a mention or link back is appreciated—but not required. We're not here to police attribution. We're here to build better tools for living.
"Friction Catalog" and "Friction Device" are trademarks of Holistic Quality LLC. You can reference them freely, but don't use them in a way that suggests official affiliation or endorsement unless you actually have our permission.
We may open-source technical specifications for the Friction Device in the future. If we do, we'll use a permissive license (likely MIT or CC BY-SA). Stay tuned.
This license covers concepts and philosophy. It doesn't cover:
These ideas are provided as-is, without warranty. We're sharing what's worked for us, but your mileage may vary. Adapt, experiment, fail, iterate. That's how you learn.
